When it comes to the iMac, Apple offers two distinct versions of its desktop computer: the 21.5-inch and 27-inch iMac, and the all-new 24-inch M1 iMac. With the colorful design changes introduced in M1 iMac this year, the differences between the two versions of the iMac are a bit easier to spot.
In August 2020, Apple introduced an updated 27-inch iMac lineup with 10th-generation Intel processors, more RAM, more SSD storage, faster AMD GPUs, and True Tone support for the display. Apple also sells a 2017 iMac model at the low end, but it lacks a 4K display and the upgraded internals you'll find in the 27-inch models.
The newest iMac is the 24-inch iMac with Apple's M1 chip, which was announced in April 2021. The M1 has an 8-core CPU with four high-efficiency cores and four high-performance cores along with an integrated GPU that has up to 8 cores. Additionally, there are major external design changes with the M1 iMac, with an extremely thin and compact design compared to prior models, and the machine measures in at just 11.5 millimeters thick. It also comes in seven colors.

27-inch iMac (2020)
Similar to the smaller model, the 27-inch iMac has an ultra-slim design, but there are differences between each computer. The 27-inch iMac has a 5K display, 10th-generation Intel processors, and Radeon Pro GPUs.

24-inch iMac (2021)
The newest of the iMac lineup, Apple's 24-inch iMac includes the company's M1 chip, which is Apple's first System on a Chip for the Mac. Compared to the previous generation 21.5-inch model, the M1 iMac offers up to 85 faster CPU performance, up to 2x faster GPU performance, and up to 3x faster machine learning.
The 24-inch iMac has replaced the lower-end 21.5-inch iMac models. The 7-Core GPU/256GB 24-inch iMac is on sale for $1,099.00 on Amazon, down from $1,299.00, which is a second-best price on this version of the iMac.
